Maasai Mara University Hosts Rift Valley Region Campus Netball and Handball Games

Narok, Kenya — Maasai Mara University successfully hosted the second leg of the Rift Valley Region Campus Netball and Handball Games, bringing together university teams from across the region for a competitive and spirited tournament aimed at promoting inter-university sports and nurturing young athletic talent.

The two-day competition attracted teams from several institutions including Kabarak University, Egerton University, University of Eldoret, Koitalel Samoei University College, Laikipia University, Bomet University College, alongside the host institution, Maasai Mara University. The tournament formed part of the regional campus games calendar that brings together universities from the Rift Valley region to compete in various sports disciplines.

The matches were played at the sports facilities of Maasai Mara University in Narok County, where students, coaches, and sports officials gathered to witness intense competition among the participating teams. The second leg of the games followed an earlier round held at another institution, with the overall winners determined by the average points accumulated across both leg one and leg two of the tournament.

The format ensured that teams had to maintain consistent performance across both stages of the competition in order to secure the top positions. As a result, every match played during the second leg was crucial in shaping the final standings.

Ladies’ Handball Competition

In the ladies’ handball category, Egerton University emerged as the overall champions after delivering strong performances throughout the tournament. Their consistency in both legs of the competition enabled them to secure the highest average points, earning them the top position.

University of Eldoret finished second after putting up a determined performance in several tightly contested matches. The host team, Maasai Mara University, secured third place, demonstrating resilience and competitive spirit in front of their home supporters.

The ladies’ handball matches were characterized by fast-paced gameplay, strategic passing, and strong defensive displays, reflecting the growing standard of university-level handball in the region.

Men’s Handball Results

In the men’s handball competition, University of Eldoret emerged as the overall champions, showcasing skill, coordination, and tactical discipline throughout the tournament.

Kabarak University finished in second place after a series of competitive matches that kept spectators engaged throughout the tournament. Egerton University secured third place, completing the list of top-performing teams in the men’s category.

At the end of the handball competition, the top three teams in both categories were awarded trophies in recognition of their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence in the sport.

Netball Competition

The netball competition also delivered exciting encounters as teams battled for regional supremacy. However, it was University of Eldoret that stood out by dominating both the men’s and women’s netball categories.
